King Alfred Exaltation March 2022 – Garry Hawkes
King Alfred Chapter 3169 met on 28 March 2022, the first meeting since the installation last October, E. Comps Stuart Boyd, Tony Wilsher Day and Justin Pursey presided. Unfortunately E. Comp Mallinson was not able to be present and Tony stood in as H.
The main business of the evening was the exaltation of Bro Garry Hawkes, who has been involved in Somerset masonry for many years, and has now become a Companion in the Royal Arch. This was the first exaltation for King Alfred since June 2019 and gave the new team, led by Principal Sojourner Comp. Danny Kennedy, the chance to complete a fine ceremony for Garry.
In 2019 The Chapter had a number of exaltations, including a double exaltation and therefore had a backlog of 4 Grand Chapter Certificates, for well documented reasons. At relatively short notice E. Comp Martin Slocombe assisted to enlighten the Chapter with an interesting and unique explanation of the certificate, its history and symbolism.
At this meeting, the Chapter also welcomed a re-joining member, Comp. Stephen Poland.
After the meeting, the companions adjourned for an excellent festive board and are set to meet again on 9 May.
